In Shadow

392607Parenthetical in nature
An afterthought of sorts
She sits on the sidelines
Watching life in reverse
Vague and distorted
It ravels itself up
And tightens the knot
She is invisible to most
A triviality in the flesh
Frustration building
Waiting to explode
Wanting to be noticed
Counting the costs
She joins in the game
Pawn to white three
Trapped by the queen
Figurative at best
But never taken alive
She’s dying inside
Slave to emotions
That never get released
Until night falls
And swallows her in shadow.
